The Muslim Association for the Advancement of Science (MAAS) established on 30/04/1983 at Aligarh by a group of young scientists, inspired to extending their benevolence and committed to the task of empowering the marginalized and left behinds with science. They took it as their life long mission, and the fervour and thrill so created drove them to carve out unique programmes and activities which on the one hand were rooted in the critique of modern scientific thoughts and ideas and on the other hand represented the ethics & morality based spirit of enquiry and policy of imitative-innovative assimilation.
The Uniqueness of MAAS' endeavour and spirit has successfully attracted people both from within and outside India. Their intellectual support and generosity has rendered it possible for MAAS to express satisfaction while taking stock of our past activities and the direction we had chosen for fashioning our approach. The ultimate objective of rendering the present day culture, in whatever limited sense it may be, to a morality based socio-scientific culture is although far away but the need and urgency of this objective has been realized in every quarter which can be influential in making it a reality in times to come. No human mission can be flawless and free from failure but it is the spirit and dedication which renders it meaningful and worthy of seeking divine bestowal. With all humility and humbleness we place on record some of our activities.
Involvement in educations research and promotion of science and technology is socially obligatory. MAAS seeks to instill this spirit and the accompanying scientific values in the mindset of every Indian in general and the left behinds in particular.
Science and scientists performance should be universally
coherent and helpful in solving problems, establishing justice and
eradicating imbalances in various levels of human existence.
• Majority of
founder
members being of the same age
group and background a harmony in thoughts and dynamism is a major
benefit MAAS has been enjoying since initial years of its
establishment. Although many of the founder members have taken up newer
responsibilities in fast changing condition of the country, but the
same spirit of commitment and dedication permeates through the team
which find several new faces after every three years when the elections
are held for the office bearers and the Governing Council as enshrined
in the constitution of the MAAS, registered under societies
registration act. Though UP based, MAAS' activities are of national
level as it enjoys the presence of members almost in every state. Off
late its connection and influence have crossed the shores and foreign
agencies and organizations having similar objectives are seeking MAAS'
cooperation in areas of interest. Most significant achievement during
these years has been the formation of a core group of scientists almost
in every state having commitment and zeal to work for the objectives of
MAAS and undertake its programs and activities. The group so emerged
involves scientists who are nationally and internationally recognized
today and are the potential policy makers of tomorrow.
• The scientists are associated with MAAS in various capacities which includes Hon'y members, life members and members. Then Patrons who for his unfailing commitment to the cause of MAAS find place in the most decorative place in the galaxy of supporters. These scientists after every three years put their experience and vision together to elect the new decision makers (the Governing Council) and the office bearers to keep freshness and maintain dynamism in the team. This when done with sparkling commitment and exemplary dedication bring worthy results in the form of new and brilliant faces and strong hand at the service of MAAS. The Governing Council (G.C.) makes long term and annual plan and also arrange for the required funds.
